Graduating

Graduation News

  • April 2020 Graduation Cermonies have been Cancelled - the adjustments for April are:
  • First, you will be invited to attend a Graduation Ceremony later in the year, once the COVID-19 situation has been controlled.  This will allow you to wear your gown, trencher and participate in the ceremony with those closest to you whilst watching and celebrating your achievements with your peers. However, you will receive your testamur (degree) and associated paperwork through the mail in May.

To process your graduation documents please complete the "Graduate in Absentia for Free - April 2020" graduation round form: https://onestop.westernsydney.edu.au/OneStopWeb/Grad/menu.

Second, the University normally holds Graduation Ceremonies in September. The situation with COVID-19 is changing so rapidly that we cannot guarantee at this time that those ceremonies will proceed on time. Therefore, the University is not accepting requests to defer graduation from April 2020 to September 2020.

We understand how disappointing it is to have your Ceremony postponed, however, the University must comply with the Government directions as they have been put in place for the best interests of us all

  • September registrations are open, closing Tuesday, 16 June.  Please be aware, due to the current COVID-19 we are not able to confirm this round will proceed at this stage.

Western Sydney University has three graduation rounds in Australia each year, held in April, September and December (selected cohorts only).

The April and September graduation rounds are open to all final year students.

The December graduation round is for selected cohorts. If your cohort is selected to participate in the December graduation round, the option to select December will be available through your MySR (via your MyWestern Central student portal www.westernsydney.edu.au/mywestern).  December registration is open for a short period (1-2 weeks) from early October and is your responsiblity to check your MySR for this option - please contact us immediately if you have December as an option but are having trouble registering (contact must be made during the opening period (graduations@westernsydney.edu.au)).  Please do not request December if you do not have this as a selection, this is a closed round and your request will be declined.

For main round ceremonies, if you are in your final session of study you will need to register to graduate online in My Student Records (MySR) within the relevant registration period. It is your responsiblity as a student to register yourself for graduation in your last session of study.  The graduation team may send courtesy reminder emails out but these are not to be expected, they are purely courtesy emails.

    April ceremonies

April graduation ceremonies are available to students who are likely to successfully complete their course requirements by Spring, Summer and T3 results release. You can register through MySR (via your MyWestern Central student portal).

Please note, if you apply for a Deferred Exam, Supplementary Assessment, Special Consideration or Review of Grade for Spring, Summer or T3 Session you will only be able to graduate if your results are loaded by the advertised deadlines. Unfortunately no extensions past the graduation deadlines are possible.

In order to be eligible to graduate in April, you must register to graduate before registrations for April Graduation close and have completed all your course requirements by the advertised graduation deadlines. If you miss the deadlines your registration will automatically be moved to September graduations.

Unfortunately no extensions past the graduation deadlines are possible.

    September ceremonies

September graduation ceremonies are available to students who are likely to successfully complete their course requirements by Autumn results release. You can register through MySR (via your MyWestern Central student portal).

Please note, if you apply for a deferred exam, supplementary assessment, Special Consideration or Review of Grade you will not be eligible to participate in the September graduation ceremonies. If you are currently undertaking cross institutional studies, you will need to apply to graduate in the April graduation ceremonies of the following year.

In order to be eligible to graduate in September, you must register to graduate before registrations for September Graduation close and have completed all your course requirements by the advertised graduation deadlines. If you miss the deadlines your registration will automatically be moved to April graduations.

    December ceremonies

The December graduation round is for selected cohorts. If your cohort is selected to participate in the December graduation round, the option to select December will be available through your MySR (via your MyWestern Central student portal www.westernsydney.edu.au/mywestern).  December registration is open for a short period (1-2 weeks) from early October and is your responsiblity to check your MySR for this option - please contact us immediately if you have December as an option but are having trouble registering (contact must be made during the opening period (graduations@westernsydney.edu.au)).  Please do not request December if you do not have this as a selection, this is a closed round and your request will be declined

Due to the tight time frame between the final Spring Session exams and the December graduation ceremonies, there can be no extension to finalise your student record beyond the Spring results release date for any reason.

Please note, if you apply for a deferred exam, supplementary assessment, Special Consideration or Review of Grade or are completing cross institutional study or enrolled in Quarter 4, you will not be eligible to participate in the December graduation ceremonies.

Due to the short turnaround times, confirmation of eligibility and ceremony details will not be available until 1 week before the ceremonies take place (it is not possible to provide this information earlier). If this is too short notice for you, please register and/or defer for April graduation ceremonies.

    Why is graduation important?

Graduation is an important milestone for all students. University graduation ceremonies are steeped in centuries of history and tradition. They are a rite of passage, marking the formal end of tertiary study and the beginning of a new career. It is a time for students to reflect on their achievements and celebrate with friends, family, our staff and all those who have supported them through their studies.
