Stage 2 - Having your degree conferred
Conferral is the legal process by which Western Sydney University awards your degree.
Once your degree is conferred, you’re officially a graduate of Western Sydney University!
It's important to note that conferral is not your graduation ceremony date and you do not need to attend the University on your conferral date.
Important conferral dates
Western Sydney University conducts multiple rounds each year.
As you approach your final period of study, it is essential to be aware of these conferral rounds and the associated timelines.
To be considered for the next conferral round, ensure your student record is accurate and complete by the relevant cut-off dates. Unfortunately, extensions cannot be granted.

Complete the Conferral Eligibility Checklist
Follow these steps to confirm your eligibility for conferral and address any outstanding issues. Your Student Completion Verification dashboard is your one-stop place to check these details:
- Log into MySR
- Open the Banner menu (three horizontal bars) in the top left corner.
- Navigate to Banner > Student > Graduation > Check Completion Status.
Step 1: Program Completion
Ensure you have met all academic requirements of your program.
You can log into MySR to see whether your program has been completed:
- Open the Banner menu (three horizontal bars) in the top left corner.
- Navigate to Banner > Student > Graduation > Check Completion Status.
- Review your graduation status. If it reads Program requirements met, pending conferral assessment, this means you have completed your program, but final checks such as holds or outstanding fees are still in progress.
Learn more about Program Completion.
Step 2: Finalise holds and outstanding fees
What to check? Check your Student Completion Verification dashboard, Charges and Payments section in MySR and emails for any holds or outstanding fees.
Action required: All holds and debts must be cleared before you can be completed and conferred. Continue monitoring your account to avoid late fees or new administrative holds. More information on Holds.
Step 3: Verify your grades are correct and you have no outstanding results
What to check? Please verify that your grades on record are accurate, as they will appear on your official university documents.
Action required: If you are applying or waiting for a Review of Grade, Change of Grade, Supplementary exam or results you must advise us at studentcompletions@westernsydney.edu.au so we can move you to a future conferral round. It is your responsibility to withdraw from conferral if you are waiting for an outcome.
Important (Review of Grade)
- If you apply for a Review/Change of Grade you will be uncompleted and moved to a future conferral round.
- You must apply for the Review of Grade through the online form. If you are going through the school directly you must email studentcompletions@westernsydney.edu.au to advise you are submitting a Review of Grade so we can put a hold on your record. If you do not and the review is upheld, if your record has been completed we are unable the change the details. You must also inform us when the grade has been updated to have the hold removed.
Step 4: Check award and program details (Majors, Minors, Concentrations, Honours Class)
What to check? Your award details will be printed on your official university documents, including your Testamur and Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS).
- Verify Award Information: Check that your award details are shown correctly in MySR (Majors, Minors, Concentrations, Teaching Areas, Curriculum Areas etc.).
- Honours Level Update: If you are waiting for an honours level, this will be updated once we receive it from your school. If no level is provided and you receive our final communication "Check your details for Conferral" email Student Completions to report it is still missing - just to ensure your document details will be correct.
- Distinction or University Medal Eligibility: If you believe you qualify for Distinction or the University Medal, check that this has been added to your record. If you are unsure whether you are eligible to graduate with Honours, Distinction or a University Medal, refer to the Graduation Policy / Document / Policy DDS
If you have any questions, seek assistance from your school or contact Student Completions
Step 5: Ensure your personal details are correct
Check your personal details to make sure they are accurate. This will help ensure that your conferral documents are in your correct name and you can receive important updates about your conferral and graduation ceremony.
What to check? There are two main checks you should do in MySR:
- Make sure your legal name matches your official identification document (e.g. Birth Certificate or Passport). Check your legal name via your My Student Records (MySR) > Check Completion Status > Verify Award Details.
- Check your personal contact details (email and mobile number) are correct via My Student Records (MySR) > My Personal Details.
Action required:
If your legal name is incorrect, you will need to submit a Change of Personal Details form. Find out more information on the Change of Personal Details webpage.
If you do need to change your name, it is important that you advise us by emailing studentcompletions@westernsydney.edu.au . You should also let us know once the change has been made.
If your degree is conferred with the incorrect legal name, you may need to pay for a replacement testamur.
Update your email and mobile number via My Student Records (MySR).
Step 6: Order your official graduation documents
Conferral documents are no longer handed out at graduation ceremonies and will instead be emailed and mailed to your nominated address at time of ordering.
Students need to order their conferral documents, choosing if they conferred before or after 2025. Visit the Conferral and Academic Documents webpage for information on ordering your documents and delivery details.
