Stage 1 - Completing Your Program
To make sure you complete your program and are eligible to have your degree conferred, there are a few steps to complete.
It is important your student record is correct by the cut off date. Follow our step-by-step checklist below to guide you through.
Step 1: Check your Degree Works
Degree Works allows you to track the progress you are making in your program. You can check your progress at anytime in your studies.
Visit the Degree Works Requirements webpage for detailed guidance to help you achieve 100% degree completion.
Once 100% of your degree requirements are satisfied in Degree Works, the University will review your record to confirm all academic requirements have been met and complete your degree.
Step 2: Check your personal details
At this point, you should check your personal details to make sure they are accurate. This will help ensure that your conferral documents are in your correct name and you can receive important updates about your conferral and graduation ceremony.
There are two main checks you should do in MySR:
- Make sure your legal name matches your official identification document (e.g. Birth Certificate or Passport). Check your legal name via your My Student Records (MySR) > Check Completion Status > Verify Award Details.
- Check your personal contact details (email and mobile number) are correct via My Student Records (MySR) > My Personal Details.
If your legal name is incorrect, you will need to submit a Change of Personal Details form. Find out more information on the Change of Personal Details webpage.
If you do need to change your name, it is important that you notify us by emailing studentcompletions@westernsydney.edu.au . You should also let us know once the change has been made.
If your degree is conferred with the incorrect legal name, you may need to pay for a replacement testamur.
Update your email and mobile number via My Student Records (MySR).
Step 3: Resolve any holds and outstanding fees
You should check your student record and the Charges and Payments section in MySR to make sure that you don’t have any holds or outstanding fees.
Holds and outstanding fees will delay your completion and conferral, so it is important that you sort these out as soon as possible.
You can visit the Holds Webpage for more information on holds and how to pay outstanding fees.
Step 4: Final conferral checks
To confirm your eligibility for graduation, review the instructions on the Conferral Eligibility Checklist on the Having your degree conferred webpage to address any remaining actions.
Confirming your program has been completed
You can log into your Student Completion Verification dashboard to see whether your program has been completed:
- Log into MySR
- Open the Banner menu (three horizontal bars) in the top left corner.
- Navigate to Banner > Student > Graduation > Check Completion Status.
- Review your graduation status. If it reads Program requirements met, pending conferral assessment, this means you have completed your program, but final checks such as holds or outstanding fees are still in progress.
After completing your program, you are able to order:
- A Program Completion Letter, which serves as proof of your completion.
- A Transcript that reflects your program as "Complete" and "Yet to be conferred." Upon conferral, this wording will change to include graduation details. You will be provided a transcript for free when you are conferred.
These documents can be useful for employment or further study while you wait for your conferral to be finalised. For more information refer to the Conferral and Academic Documents webpage.
Once your program has been marked complete, your record will progress to be assessed for conferral.
