Applying for leave or resigning from your course

Taking a Leave of Absence

A Leave of Absence is a temporary break from studying. Once you have completed one or more units in your enrolled course, you can apply for a Leave of Absence. A Leave of Absence can be taken as either six or twelve months. The maximum amount of leave you can take during your course is twelve months. Please note, you must submit your application before the relevant census date.

To apply for a Leave of Absence, you should complete the Leave of Absence section of a Discontinuation or break from studies form (available online or at any Student Central). You can lodge your form by:

  • Visiting any Student Central location on campus
  • Posting the form to Student Central, Western Sydney University, Locked Bag 1797, PENRITH NSW 2751
  • Scanning and emailing the form (from your student email account) to studentcentral@westernsydney.edu.au

You can also send an email (from your student email account), directly to enrolments@westernsydney.edu.au, requesting a leave of absence (without using the form).

Once your Leave of Absence is approved, we will send a confirmation email to your student email account.

Returning to study after your Leave of Absence

We recommend you seek academic advice before selecting your units of study when you return from a Leave of Absence. You must make sure you're enrolled before the start of the next teaching session.
