Motor Vehicle Insurance
Cover
The University maintains comprehensive motor vehicle insurance cover for all University pool vehicles, dedicated departmental vehicles and staff salary sacrifice vehicles. The University does not insure staff novated lease vehicles.
The policy provides cover for all loss or damage to the insured vehicles as well as legal liability for personal injury and property damage to third parties.
Please ensure this web page is read in conjunction with the Motor Vehicle Policy (opens in a new window).
Excess
The policy has a basic excess of $1,000 on all at fault and single vehicle accidents. There is no excess contribution towards a claim if:
- The claim involves a collision with another vehicle and the collision which gave rise to the claim was totally the fault of the driver of another vehicle; and
- The University driver provides the insurer with the registration number of the other vehicle and full name, licence number and address of the other driver.
- For Salary Sacrifice Vehicles please refer to the Salary Sacrifice (Vehicles) Policy (opens in a new window) - Part D Insurance - regarding excesses.
Major Exclusions
There is no cover for:
- Loss of use, depreciation, wear and tear, rust and corrosion, structural, mechanical, electrical or electronic breakdown, failure or breakage.
- Damage to tyres by application of brakes, or by road cuts, punctures or bursts.
- Loss by theft during or after the occurrence of an accident unless reasonable steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the vehicle and/or accessories.
What to do if you have an accident
Following an accident, it is not always easy to think or act clearly. The Motor Vehicle Insurance Information Sheet (PDF, 145.49 KB) (opens in a new window) may remind you of what needs to be done and will help in an Insurance claim.
Claims
All claims need to be reported to the Senior Operations Accountant by completing a Motor Vehicle Insurance Claim form (PDF, 247.28 KB) (opens in a new window). The driver is responsible for completion of the insurance claim form, organising a quotation for repair and ensuring delivery of the vehicle to the designated repairer.
