Dr Iain McAlpine

Iain has a background in teaching and educational design and production of multi-media learning resources. His doctoral research focuses on student learning from computer-based resources and their implications for educational design to enhance learning.  Through involvement with research and development projects in technology-enabled educational design for a range of disciplines at The University of Melbourne and UNSW he is skilled in integrating research and theory into effective teaching practice.  Further developments involved inquiry and problem-based learning for Engineering at UNSW and Health Sciences at La Trobe universities. At WSU, Iain has supported educational developments building on a constructivist approach to student engagement including e-portfolio applications, authentic learning and assessment, implementation of group and teamwork to encourage deep learning. He is the principal developer of the WSU Assessment Guide.

Iain is available to support educational developments related to engagement with alternative approaches to assessment, authentic learning and assessment, inquiry and problem-based learning, group and teamwork, and approaches to assessment relating to Generative AI.
