Student Services and Amenities Fee

The Student Services and Amenities fee applies to all students, including The College students and international students.

Only the following students are exempt from paying the fee:

• Students undertaking their entire program off-shore at an overseas non-Western Sydney University campus.

If you are a Western Sydney University student completing cross-institutional study, you are exempt from paying the fee at Western Sydney University for the subjects you are studying at another university. Please note, you may be required to pay the relevant fee for that subject at the other university.

2024 Amounts

The maximum  fee in 2024 is $351.00 per year for full time students. Lower fees apply for students doing less than a full time load in the half year SSAF period.

The amount you are charged will depend on your Equivalent Full Time Student Load (EFTSL) during the SSAF half year period. Your EFTSL for each teaching term is displayed on your Statement of Account (SOA). For more information about your EFTSL, see the How can I work out my EFTSL webpage.

Part-time – 0.374 EFTSL or less (29cp or less): $131.00

Full-time - 0.375 EFTSL or more (30cp or more): $175.00

WSU Online (per Trimester) = $46.00

External, Online and/or Composite subjects (per Semester) = $70.00*

*Normal SSAF rates apply if enrolled concurrently in any on-campus subjects.

Note: The Government determined that the maximum rate universities can charge for Student Services and Amenities Fee for 2024 is $351.

However these fees will be indexed and may increase each year. To find out how much you owe, access your SSAF SOA in My Student Records (MySR).

2023 Amounts

The maximum fee in 2023 is $326.00 per year for full time students. Lower fees apply for students doing less than a full time load in the half year SSAF period.

WSU Online (per Trimester) = $43.00

External, Online and/or Composite subjects (per Semester) = $65.00*

2022 Amounts

The maximum fee in 2022 is $308.00 per year for full time students. Lower fees apply for students doing less than a full time load in the half year period.

The amount you are charged will depend on your Equivalent Full Time Student Load (EFTSL) each term. Your EFTSL for each teaching term is displayed on your Statement of Account (SOA). For more information about your EFTSL, see the How can I work out my EFTSL webpage.

Part-time – 0.374 EFTSL or less (29cp or less): $115

Full-time - 0.375 EFTSL or more (30cp or more): $154.00

WSU Online (per Trimester) = $41.00

External, Online and/or Composite subjects (per Semester) = $61.50*

*Normal SSAF rates apply if enrolled concurrently in any on-campus subjects.

Note: The Government determined that the maximum rate universities can charge for Student Services and Amenities Fee for 2022 is $315. The University decided not to increase the SSAF rate in 2022 and the rate will remain at the same rate as 2020 and 2021.

However these fees will be indexed and may increase each year. To find out how much you owe, access your SSAF SOA in My Student Records (MySR).

Western Sydney Online 2022 SSAF due dates:

You can pay your SSAF upfront or, if you are an Australian citizen or Humanitarian visa holder (and are enrolled in an award program), you can apply to defer the fee via a SA-HELP loan similar to HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP.

Paying SSAF upfront
You will need to view your SSAF eSOA to check the amount you need to pay and for the payment methods. To access your SSAF eSOA:

1. Log in to My Student Records (MySR)
2. Go into Fee Records, select 'Statement of Account'
3. Go to the drop down box and select 'Services and Amenities - SSAF (Western Sydney University students) 2019' and click the 'Display SOA' button

The easiest and quickest way to pay your SSAF is through the Payments system. Other payment methods are also listed on the paying your fees page.

Deferring your SSAF
If you are eligible and want to apply for SA-HELP to defer your SSAF to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) you need to take the following steps:

1. Log in to My Student Records (MySR)
2. From the homepage, go into 'Enrol'
3. If you have more than one program showing, select your current program
4. Go to the Government Forms step and select the 'SA-HELP' form
5. Select the 'Defer SA-HELP' button
6. Complete and submit the form, ensuring you enter your Tax File Number (TFN)

If you are an Australian citizen or Humanitarian visa holder and are enrolled in an award program, you can defer your fee to the Australian Tax Office (ATO) now using a Services Amenities Fee HELP (SA-HELP) loan. The SA-HELP form is in MyStudentRecords (MySR). See the step by step instructions on how to apply for SA-HELP above.

If you do not meet this criteria, then you are not eligible to defer your SSAF fee via SA-HELP, and you need to pay your fee upfront. To do this, download your SSAF electronic Statement of Account (eSOA) from MySR and pay using one of the payment options on the bottom of your eSOA. These options are also listed on the paying your fees page.

If you haven't paid or deferred your SSAF by the due date, you will have to pay up front (even if you were eligible to defer) and will not be able to see your results until payment is received.

If you don't pay or defer (if eligible) your SSAF, a hold (block) will be placed on your record, which means you won't be able to see your results, access vUWS, access the Library and IT services or graduate.

You must pay your SSAF in full to have this hold lifted. Once you have paid you don't need to do anything. We will send an email to your student email account notifying you that your hold has been lifted. This should take approximately two working days from when your payment is received.

Paying through Payments, the University's online payment system, will allow us to verify your payment and remove your hold quickly. Please email enrolments@westernsydney.edu.au with your Payments receipt once payment has been made.

Your SSAF is calculated on the subject you have been studying for each teaching term. If you drop a subject before the census date of a teaching term it will not be included in calculating your SSAF.

If you are granted withdrawal without academic penalty for any subjects you drop after the census date of a teaching term, SSAF will not be recalculated or refunded.

If you have studied any subjects in the second half of the year you still need to pay SSAF. For example if you did one subject in Quarter 3 to finish your program, you will need to pay SSAF based on your enrolment load. Please refer to amounts above.

The fee income will be spent according to the legislation and the Student Services, Amenities, Representation and Advocacy Guidelines.

New Zealand citizens, who meet the eligibility criteria can defer their tuition fees via a HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP loan and their Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) via SA-HELP.  Please check your eligibility - I am  a New Zealand Citizen
