Powers of Ten
A number written in exponential form, with a base of ten and an integer power, is referred to as a power of 10.
So, a number written as a power of $10$ refers to the following pattern: $$10^{\text{integer}}$$
For powers that are positive integers, for example $4$, it means $10$ is multiplied by itself $4$ times. So \begin{align*} 10^4 &= 10\times 10\times 10\times 10\\ &=10000\end{align*}.
Continuing the pattern for the following powers of $10$ we see: \begin{align*} 10^3 &=10\times 10\times 10\\ &=1000\\[2ex] 10^2 &=10\times 10\\&=100\\[2ex] 10^1&=10\end{align*}
