Sisters of Charity Foundation

Since arriving in Australia in 1838, the Sisters of Charity have been devoted to helping the poor and marginalised. Impelled by the love of Christ, the Sisters of Charity began their ministry in Australia by assisting the convict women in the Female Factory at Parramatta. From these humble beginnings, the Sisters of Charity have continued to answer the call to ministry in hospitals, schools, prisons and social welfare activities in the broader community.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation was established in 2000 to continue in perpetuity the social justice works of the Sisters of Charity Congregation. The Foundation strives to honour that mission by financially supporting local community projects that alleviate the effects of poverty and social isolation. The Foundation is also committed to breaking the cycle of poverty for young people who have had a traumatic start in life, by empowering students with a foster/kinship care experience to gain a tertiary education.

The Foundation has provided a scholarship to the University to help a student make the most of their time at university. The scholarship is designed to assist a student with essential study materials and living expenses.

Applications and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the receipt of the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant's background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit.

Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, ability to meet the criteria and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.

Applicants must complete the appropriate Application Form and submit the form to the Scholarships and Student Advancement Unit.
