1 K thank you for helping us with our research first I'm going to ask you some questions about yourself

14 L I was born in Australia

17 K but your parents are Japanese
18 L yes that is correct
19 K so which language do you normally speak at home
20 L I speak English

22 L but my parents respond in Japanese
23 K oh okay so do you uhhh… when do you use Japanese
24 L uhm to my grandmother

28 L but uh… that's pretty much it my Japanese is quite limited unfortunately
29 K oh ok did you study Japanese before
30 L uh yes I did when I was in primary school so from when I was about six to when I was about twelve I studied Japanese but unfortunately that's all gone down the drain and I don't really remember much
31 K ok how many hours per week do you study Japanese
32 L oh now?
33 K no when you were learning
34 L oh I think it was only about two hours or so... oh no I think it was a few hours at school so maybe about five hours out of school and then probably one hour extra

37 K and actually how many languages do you speak
38 L well I studied French before that but now at home I only speak English and a little bit of Japanese
39 K okay how about your French how many years did you learn French
40 L I learnt French for uh… I think it was about three years

42 L and uh… while I was getting better at it I stopped at year eleven

44 L so I haven't been able to study it in that much detail

82 L yes mm that is right and I while I don't normally enjoy that I must say she has ur nicer clothes than me so it's beneficial when I borrow her clothes but yes

84 L uh I have my own laptop but um my mother uses that very rarely only for work occasionally but um… it's technically my computer and I use it for assessments and social networking as well

86 L no unfortunately not I share that with my younger sister as well and that becomes very irritating and I I very much don't like sharing a room with somebody
