1          K          thank you for helping us with our research first I'm going to ask you some questions about yourself

2          L          okay

3          K          feel free if you would like to ask me any question about myself

4          L          alright absolutely

5          K          and after that we are going to have a look at the same pictures

6          L          mmhm

7          K          and ask each other questions

8          L          ok

9          K          is it ok

10        L          yes this sounds good

11        K          okay so first

12        L          huh

13        K          which country were you born

14        L          I was born in Australia

15        K          Australia

16        L          yes

17        K          but your parents are Japanese

18        L          yes that is correct

19        K          so which language do you normally speak at home

20        L          I speak English

21        K          English

22        L          but my parents respond in Japanese

23        K          oh okay so do you uhhh… when do you use Japanese

24        L          uhm to my grandmother

25        K          oh yeah

26        L          occasionally

27        K          yes

28        L          but uh… that's pretty much it my Japanese is quite limited unfortunately

29        K          oh ok did you study Japanese before

30        L          uh yes I did when I was in primary school so from when I was about six to when I was about twelve I studied Japanese but unfortunately that's all gone down the drain and I don't really remember much

31        K          ok how many hours per week do you study Japanese

32        L          oh now?

33        K          no when you were learning

34        L          oh I think it was only about two hours or so... oh no I think it was a few hours at school so maybe about five hours out of school and then probably one hour extra

35        K          oh

36        L          during the week

37        K          and actually how many languages do you speak

38        L          well I studied French before that but now at home I only speak English and a little bit of Japanese

39        K          okay how about your French how many years did you learn French

40        L          I learnt French for uh… I think it was about three years

41        K          three years

42        L          and uh… while I was getting better at it I stopped at year eleven

43        K          huh

44        L          so I haven't been able to study it in that much detail

45        K          oh okay thank you. and now I'd like to ask you about yourself

46        L          huh alright

47        K          I heard. you you come to swimming pool every week

48        L          everyday yes

49        K          everyday

50        L          yes I swim

51        K          okay apart from coming to swimming pool what do you are you normally do what do you normally do

52        L          at home

53        K          yes

54        L          I um… I tend to study now

55        K          uN

56        L          and um… I occasionally spend leisure time reading

58        L          or else socially networking online

61        K          oh I normally work everyday

63        K          ok how about so you spent ohh how about. hum hum what a last weekend

66        L          uhh last weekend I went grocery shopping

68        L          and I also did some study

70        L          over the weekend and I practiced uhm some drama

75        K          ohh and are you interested in fashion clothes or you know shoes

76        L          I I am but uhm right now I don't really have time for that kind of stuff but uhh yes fashion does please me and I I do… I am interested in fashion if that's um… the final line yes

77        K          oh really do you have lots of shoes like shoes

78        L          um not as many as I'd like (laugh) they are quite expensive um… but yes I have a few pairs

80        L          yes to go out and everything

81        K          oh okay and I heard you normally share your clothes and shoes with your sister is that right

82        L          yes mm that is right and I while I don't normally enjoy that I must say she has ur nicer clothes than me so it's beneficial when I borrow her clothes but yes

83        K          how about your computer do you have your own computer

84        L          uh I have my own laptop but um my mother uses that very rarely only for work occasionally but um… it's technically my computer and I use it for assessments and social networking as well

85        K          how about do you have your own room

86        L          no unfortunately not I share that with my younger sister as well and that becomes very irritating and I I very much don't like sharing a room with somebody

88        L          yeh

89        K          okay and… (pause) and you said you have a computer

90        L          yeh

91        K          currently you you have brought your computer here

92        L          yes I brought the laptop here yes

94        L          yes that is one that I use. primarily yes

97        K          oh right how about uhh the bag over there is that yours the pink one

98        L          yes the pink one is my swimming bag and it has all my swimming stuff in it so my towel
