1          K:         thank you for helping us with our research first I am going to ask some questions about yourself feel free if you would like to ask me any question (x) after that we are going to look at the same picture ask each other question questions does it sounds all right

2          Orie:    yes

3          K:         ok so let's have a start so (x) when did you come to Australia

4          Orie:    when um . year um two thousand six

5          K:         two thousand and six

6          Orie:    yes

7          K:         oh which month

8          Orie:    ummm

9          K:         February

10        Orie:    umm yes February

11        K:         when you arrived at Australia how old were you

12        Orie:    umm I was um twenty-seven years old

13        K:         (laugh) good so your English is good when did you learn English

14        Orie:    when

15        K:         yeah

16        Orie:    umm when I was in um junior high school in Japan

17        K:         uh

18        Orie:    English was a compulsory subject and I had to study English and

19        K:         uh how about senior high school

20        Orie:    yes um so yeah yeah it was a compulsory subject as well and I . had studied English for ei eight years in Japan

21        K:         eight years

22        Orie:    yes

23        K:         ok eight years eight years means three years three years in high school and (x) years in university

24        Orie:    yes

25        K:         good do you like English (laugh)

26        Orie:    um I like English but it's difficult (laugh)

27        K:         what is the most difficult you know part

28        Orie:    hummm maybe listening is my weakness probably

29        K:         uh

30        Orie:    and speakin

31        K:         uh

32        Orie:    I like reading and writing (laugh)

33        K:         (laugh) and at home um when you were a child did you speak Japanese at home

34        Orie:    yes

35        K:         only Japanese

36        Orie:    yes

37        K:         any other languages

38        Orie:    no

39        K:         good after graduating from university what did you do

40        Orie:    um I used to be a preschool teacher

41        K:         preschool teacher wow preschool how old you know how old is your how old were your kids

42        Orie:    umm my students were from three to six years old

43        K:         three to six years old

44        Orie:    yea

45        K:         how many students kids did you actually have in one in your class

46        Orie:    umm it was thirty-two students in one class

47        K:         good and what did you teach

48        Orie:    um everything (laugh)

49        K:         could you give me some example

50        Orie:    yeah um for example hummm yeah language gymnastic dance drawing and playing (laugh)

52        Orie:    hai yeah

53        K:         interesting and how many teachers were there in your kindergarten

54        Orie:    haa suu there were seven classes

55        K:         uh

56        Orie:    and seven nine classroom teachers and two . thirteen teachers

57        K:         yeah and by the way now you are in Australia Sydney here what are you doing now

58        Orie:    (laugh) umm I . just finished my masters course

59        K:         uh

60        Orie:    this month

61        K:         uh

62        Orie:    and so . um um I have some part-time part-time jobs

63        K:         uh

64        Orie:    um I'm teaching Japanese to high school students and to them who have Japanese background

65        K:         Japanese background are they good are they good students

66        Orie:    ummm . so . ummmm ee basically they are good students (laugh)

67        K:         basically

68        Orie:    umm this year I'm umm I'm taking a charge of class of young kids within three to five years old

69        K:         uh

70        Orie:    hum so they . so they just learn Japanese and English (laugh) so yes they are nice and high school students are motivated

71        K:         uh

72        Orie:    for HSC

73        K:         good by the way do you have any brothers and sisters here in Australia

74        Orie:    uh no

75        K:         where are

76        Orie:    um I have um one older sister and one younger sister in Japan

77        K:         older sister as for older sister what does she do in Japan

78        Orie:    um she is a preschool teacher

79        K:         (laugh) so which preschool where does she live

80        Orie:    umm she lives in Utsunomiya

81        K:         where is it

82        Orie:    Utsunomiya is um a capital city of Tochigi prefecture

83        K:         so umm umm Aomori

84        Orie:    Aomori is a north hum Tochigi is next to Saitama

85        K:         oh ok thank you (laugh) and do you know what she does at weekend do you have any idea

88        Orie:    uhm

89        K:         what does she do on the weekend

90        Orie:    (laugh) weekend

92        Orie:    ummm oh yes umm she has a girl

96        Orie:    yes I think she is busy to look after her

97        K:         so does your brother big brother sorry big sister has own um has own house in ja

98        Orie:    um no she lives in apartment

99        K:         do you have any questions about myself now

100     Orie:    (laugh) question umm (xx) why did you come here did you come to Australia

101     K:         because I wanted to change my life I would like to I wanted to have a new life here that's why I came to Australia

102     Orie:    um what did you do in Japan

103     K:         I was a high school teacher junior high school teacher

104     Orie:    uhmm

105     K:         but now . I quite

106     Orie:    uhm were you an English teacher?

107     K:         no I was a home science teacher

108     Orie:    wow interesting

109     K:         (laugh)

110     Orie:    huumm so ummm did you change your life so you wanted change your life so . did you change

111     K:         yes I think so

112     Orie:    oh

113     K:         now I'm very I think I have a very happy life here

114     Orie:    uh

115     K:         yeah I really enjoy my my life by the way you have a very nice you know what's that umbrella
