Digital innovation leader honoured by Western Sydney University
Professor Paul X. McCarthy, a trailblazer in the digital technology sector and consultant to blue-chip companies and government, will be recognised for his innovative work when he is awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Western Sydney University.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover, said the University will honour Professor McCarthy’s pioneering work, which spans animation, digital design, data research, and media-tech innovation.
“Western Sydney University focuses on the jobs of the future. As a leader in this field, Professor McCarthy’s groundbreaking work, which he has been involved since his graduation from this University, is a source of pride for us.” said Professor Glover.
“Paul has immersed himself in the digital space, and has been a guiding light for those entering into this new field. His contributions to digital innovation in New South Wales have helped to shape the industry and have led to thousands of new jobs within this business-disrupting sector.”
In acknowledging the Honorary Fellowship, Professor McCarthy said: “My interest in exploring the vast possibilities of online technology began with my studies at Western Sydney University.”
“In 1992, while I was working at IBM Australia, Western Sydney offered the first Masters degree in digital media in Australia and I was lucky enough to be accepted into the foundation cohort. Working in the startup space is always inspiring and I look forward to the next generation of graduates who will build on the work we are doing today,” said Professor McCarthy.
Professor Paul X. McCarthy will be awarded with an Honorary Fellowship at Western Sydney University’s graduation ceremony, 2.30pm on 1 May 2018 at the University’s Parramatta South campus.
