Witness the love: The My Human Family exhibition opening soon

Members of the community are invited to witness the love between pound dogs and their new families by visiting the My Human Family exhibition at the Margot Hardy Art Gallery on the Bankstown campus of the University of Western Sydney.

The exhibition will open on Wednesday 10 April and run until Tuesday 30 April.

The exhibition is comprised of 40 of the 200 submissions that came from all over Australia. The photos and stories are of dogs that were rescued from pounds and were welcomed into loving human families.

Accompanying these 40 official submissions will be the Western Sydney Dog Diary - one of seven pin-board Dog Diaries travelling around Australia. Since November last year Nick Baldas, Project Coordinator, has been calling on members of the Western Sydney region to submit their own stories of love and share how a pound dog came to be part of their family.

“We received a great number of submissions to the Western Sydney Dog Diary and we are excited to finally be able to share these stories at the My Human Family exhibition,” says Nick.

The My Human Family exhibition and the Western Sydney Dog Diary aim to raise awareness about the plight of abandoned, surrendered and neglected dogs.

“The exhibition/campaign is a national initiative to help create awareness for abandoned and neglected dogs. One of its main objectives is to show how unnecessary places like puppy farms are, when there are so many dogs in pounds and shelters that are deserving of a home,” says Mr Baldas.

The official opening of the My Human Family exhibition will be at 2.00pm on Saturday 13 April. Members of the local community are invited to bring their dogs to the gallery for the ‘Western Sydney Doggie Day Out’. The event is free and dogs will have the chance to get a vet check, treats and a family photo however they must be on a leash at all times.
