Through the eyes of locals: What is your Australia?

Who needs Leonardo Da Vinci when you can have Jo Quinn from Events and Student Clubs? Why line up to see Claude Monet when you can walk straight up and admire a Kirsty Zorbas from uwsconnect?

From Tuesday 19th February until Friday 29th March 2013 the Margot Hardy Gallery, on the Bankstown campus of the University of Western Sydney, will be hosting the My Australia exhibition and, as the name suggests, the exhibition will be showcasing the landscape, faces and places of our country through the unique eyes of everyday Australians.

Staff from the University of Western Sydney have collaborated to create a fun, colourful and multifaceted collection of photographs that aim to show how our shared identity is created through Australia’s individual culture, natural beauty and iconic sense of humour.

Jo Quinn, Events, Activities and Recreation Coordinator at uwsconnect, is one of the artists participating in the exhibition and feels it highlights just how diverse Australians are.

“Australia is a modern, multicultural society and the exhibition shows just how diverse Australia appears to staff working in the heart of Sydney’s multicultural Western Suburbs,” says Ms Quinn.

“Through the media of photography, we artists are showing what Australia means to us and also giving the audience permission to reflect on their own experiences and identify their Australia.”

Members of the general public are able to view the unique, collaborative exhibition from 9.00am until 5.00pm Mondays- Fridays.
