On Friday 14th June Linda Burney MP, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Member for Canterbury officially opened the Canterbury Boys High School Art Exhibition.

The exhibition is on display in the Margot Hardy Gallery, located at the University of Western Sydney Bankstown Campus and celebrates diversity and individuality. The students at Canterbury Boys High School have been encouraged to use art as a way to express their ideas, personality and interests.

Kathy Danilatos, Visual Arts Head Teacher at Canterbury Boys High School, believes the visual arts program at Canterbury Boys High School to be integral to their students’ education.

“The Visual Arts program at Canterbury Boys contributes to the broad educational experiences at the school,” says Ms Danilatos. “Engaging in the Visual Arts, enables our students to create their own artwork, study the work of a wide range of artists and view artworks in real-world context.”

Each term the students focused on a different theme for example, manipulated landscapes, still life artworks and self portraits with a twist. The students have studied many artists, and have developed knowledge and technique to allow them to display their interpretation of their surroundings and self.

The exhibition will be at the Margot Hardy Gallery for four weeks, concluding on Friday 12th July. The Margot Hardy Gallery is open from 9am- 5pm Monday to Friday.
