Joanna Bourke ‘Rapacious: Historical Reflections on Sexual Violence in Europe’

Professor Joanna Bourke gave a compelling presentation on the competing meanings of violence, a challenge which becomes far more complex when explored historically. What do we find when analysing the different meanings attached to sexual violence in Europe from the nineteenth to mid-twentieth century? How did conceptions of such forms of violence change? The talk will be published in full in the upcoming issue of the Sydney Review of Books
