Western Sydney University swings into action for Giving Day

‘Team Chancellor’ and  ‘Team Vice-Chancellor’ ahead of the Chancellor's Challenge golf competition

Western Sydney University students, staff and alumni will support the University’s transformational education and research initiatives at its flagship fundraising event, Giving Day, to be held Wednesday 6 September.

This year’s Giving Day will begin with a 10km walk through Parramatta before teeing off with a Chancellor’s Challenge golf competition.

The Giving Day walk will start at the University’s Parramatta South campus – winding along the Parramatta River to CommBank Stadium and then to the picturesque Parramatta Park precinct before returning through the city via the University’s CBD campuses. The community is invited to join the fun by lacing up their shoes and taking part – registration is through the Giving Day website.

The popular Chancellor’s Challenge returns this year, with a golf competition to test the chipping skills of University leaders and their teams on the green at Parramatta South campus.

Western Sydney University Chancellor, Professor Jennifer Westacott AO will lead ‘Team Chancellor’ in raising funds for the University’s new Indigenous Centre of Excellence, while Professor Barney Glover AO will lead ‘Team Vice-Chancellor’ to support the University’s Integrative Health research.

Giving Day asks the University’s passionate supporters to donate to initiatives such as scholarships, world-leading research, ground-breaking projects like the student-led solar car team, and the University’s landmark Indigenous Centre of Excellence.

The University plays a pivotal role in the social and economic transformation of western Sydney and beyond. For the second consecutive year, Western Sydney University has been ranked number one in the world for its social, ecological, and economic impact in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings.

“There is so much to celebrate. Giving Day is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Western Sydney University – a world-class institution delivering high quality teaching, conducting impact-driven research, and working with and for the communities of the western Sydney region,” said Professor Westacott.

“I am very much looking forward to my first Giving Day as Chancellor. This University has a long and proud history of serving the people of western Sydney and the funds raised will help contribute to continuing that legacy.”

Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, said he is looking forward to seeing staff, students and alumni come together for the event.

“Giving Day unites us and provides us with the opportunity to contribute to the life-changing impact of philanthropy while having a great time,” said Professor Glover.

“I invite our friends and supporters to join the University community and get behind Giving Day to support our student life programs, scholarships, and our world-class research and innovation. Together, in just one day, we can make an enormous difference.”
