Western Sydney University and the Parramatta Eels have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at delivering opportunities for the community and students.

The MoU, which was signed at a dedicated event at the University’s Parramatta City campus, will strengthen and formalise the longstanding relationship between the organisations and includes a range of initiatives, spanning community engagement, education and research.

Community and social impact initiatives in Western Sydney will be a key focus of the collaboration, specifically initiatives targeting women's sports and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.

The Eels will partner with Western’s School of Business to deliver the latest in sports management and operations. An internship program for Western Sydney University students will be developed to provide engagement opportunities for Parramatta Eels game days, events, and social impact programs.

Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, said the partnership will deliver a range of impactful community and student initiatives.

“Western Sydney University is pleased to formalise our longstanding partnership with the Parramatta Eels through this MoU. The partnership affirms our shared commitment to community engagement in the region and will deliver real-world learning opportunities for our students,” said Professor Glover.

Parramatta Eels Chief Executive Jim Sarantinos said that the partnership represents a genuine commitment from both the University and the Parramatta Eels to build a successful and long-lasting relationship.

“The Parramatta Eels and Western Sydney University are two of the most recognisable brands in Western Sydney. This MoU signifies a mutually beneficial relationship that will not only bolster our organisations, but also leave a lasting positive impact on our community,” said Mr Sarantinos.

As part of the MoU, leading researchers from the School of Business at Western Sydney University will measure the social impact of community programs led by the Parramatta Eels. This will include identifying and measuring key initiatives to enhance community and junior sports across Western Sydney.
