University welcomes new Dean to the School of Law

Western Sydney University is pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Anna Cody as the new Dean of the School of Law.

Associate Professor Cody is a Harvard graduate with a distinguished background in human rights law and legal education. She joins the University from the University of New South Wales, where she is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Kingsford Legal Centre, responsible for the Centre’s management and teaching programs as well as other law courses in the Faculty.

Associate Professor Cody also holds Board appointments with the National Association of Community Legal Centres and Legal Aid Commission NSW, and has previously held roles as Chair, Community Legal Centres NSW and Deputy Chair, NSW Legal Assistance Forum. She has won numerous awards including: for teaching and research from UNSW; an Australian Universities Teaching award in the Law and Legal Studies section; a citation for Outstanding contribution to Student Learning in the Australian Awards for University Teaching; the 2007 NSW Women Lawyers’ Association community lawyer award; and the 2016 Australian Human Rights Commission Law award.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barney Glover, welcomes Associate Professor Cody to Western Sydney University, and says he looks forward to her commencing in April 2019.

“Associate Professor Cody’s background in human rights law and legal education, as well as her extensive leadership experience across both the education and not-for-profit legal sectors, will be invaluable to the role of Dean of the School of Law,” says Professor Glover.

“Western Sydney University’s School of Law is recognised for preparing some of the best and brightest young legal minds who have a strong commitment to social justice and community advocacy.

“On behalf of the University community, I congratulate Associate Professor Cody on her appointment, and we look forward to her joining us next year.”
