It’s the most wonderful time of the year

With the end of the year fast approaching, Western Sydney University has held its annual Chancellor’s toy appeal.  This is the sixth year the appeal – which has donated over 2500 toys – has been held by the university.

Over the last month the university collected toys from staff and students across all campuses and this year three charities will receive the proceeds of the collection.

These charities will distribute the toys to disadvantaged children and teenagers in the Greater Western Sydney region for Christmas.

The Liverpool Neighbourhood Connections runs over 60 programs for the Liverpool community and surroundings suburbs.  These programs range from playgroups to vacation care programs and homework support groups.

Blacktown Area Community Centres provides services including a roving childcare service which provides mobile child care services to other not for profit services and also youth programs that support young people participating in recreation, education and employment activities.

The Nepean Community and Neighbourhood services are the largest provider of indigenous services for children in the Penrith area. They also provide a number of family programs including early intervention and social inclusion.

On behalf of the university community, Chancellor Professor Peter Shergold met with representatives of these services to hand over the hundreds of toys and gifts that were donated this year.  The University is pleased to work with these organisations to be able to provide support to western Sydney families.

The Chancellor would like to thank all staff and students who have donated and continue to support the Chancellor's Christmas Toy Appeal year on year.

Western Sydney University wishes everyone a very happy Christmas, and a safe and restful holiday season.
