Congratulations to the HSC class of 2023, as Western Sydney University gets set to welcome students to campus for Course Decision Day

Open Day 2022 - Entrance

Western Sydney University offers a warm congratulations to the class of 2023 as tens of thousands of HSC students receive their ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) today.

More than 4,000 school leavers eager to study at Western Sydney University next year are also receiving university offers today as part of the University’s innovative HSC True Reward program.

HSC True Reward is a sector-leading early offer program that recognises that HSC students are much more than their ATAR, with a student’s subject performance – which best reflect a student’s strengths and areas of interest – recognised as a robust indicator of future success at university.

The program provides flexibility to HSC students, alleviating some pressure about university entry by enabling school leavers to use either their HSC results or their Year 11 results as part of their university application.

Critically, the University takes careful steps not to undermine the importance and integrity of the HSC with all offers made on the condition that students successfully complete their HSC exams.

The University has already made more than 11,000 early offers in September and November this year, with a final HSC True Reward offer round still to come on 11 January 2024.

Courses popular among students this year include business, health science, psychology, medical science, advanced medical science, arts (pathway to teaching primary) and construction management.

Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, congratulated this year’s HSC school leavers on their achievements.

“Successfully completing high school is a significant milestone to be celebrated. We know how disruptive the last few years of schooling have been due to the pandemic, so this is an opportunity to reflect on an outstanding achievement – not only for the students, but also their parents, supporters and families,” said Professor Glover.

“To the class of 2023, remember that your future success is not determined by your exam results and ATAR alone – there are many options and pathways to further study and a successful and rewarding career.”

Professor Glover said Western Sydney University has a long and proud history of promoting equity and providing access to higher education for hard-working, talented students from all backgrounds.

“Our University is deeply committed to ensuring that all students who are hard working and capable have the opportunity to go to university, and most importantly, are well-supported to succeed,” said Professor Glover.

“We know that students who have performed well in their HSC subjects will succeed if they are enrolled in a degree that is right for them and aligns with their strengths and areas of interest.

“With 65 per cent of our students the first in their family to attend university, we know the life-changing impact that successfully completing a university degree has – not only for students, but for their families and broader communities.

“Our innovative programs like HSC True Reward supports more students on the pathway to university and towards fulfilling their career ambitions.”

Students looking to study at Western Sydney University next year are invited to the University’s Course Decision Day on Friday 15 December at the Parramatta South campus.

Following a welcome address from the Vice-Chancellor and a free breakfast in the morning, students will get a taste of campus life with a host of fun and interactive activities all aimed at helping them get ready for university in 2024 and to set them up for success.

Hundreds of staff and current students will be on hand to provide expert course advice, help students with enrolling and applying for a student ID card, as well as offering handy tips for getting started at uni.

Future students can attend a range of presentations and even participate in their very own interactive session so they can immerse themselves in a typical classroom experience. There will also be prize giveaways, free food, live music and entertainment.

They will learn more about Western Sydney University becoming the first Adobe Creative Campus in NSW – giving students access to a diverse range of digital tools and training opportunities – along with the University’s impressive sustainability credentials, including being named number one in the world two years in a row in the prestigious Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for its social, economic and environmental impact.
