New partnership with Semi Permanent grants student access to global thought leaders

Western Sydney University students will have the chance to learn directly from creative leaders at companies such as Google and VICE Publishing, thanks to a new partnership with global creative and content platform Semi Permanent.
Under the agreement, Western Sydney University will be the official education partner of Semi Permanent  , paving the way for international speakers and industry partners to be embedded in the University's core student experience.

In the first collaboration between the two organisations, Western Sydney University will take part in Semi Permanent's annual creative summit  in May, under this year's theme Designing for Change.

Taking place at Carriageworks from May 25 – 27, the marquee event will include a live brief for Sea Shepherd, as well as workshops with the Google Immersive Design team, and a presentation from Kevin Coatman (Creative Director – Nike Sportswear) and Meirion Pritchard (Design Director of Football - NIKE).

Students will be offered a range of internships working with the organisers to help prepare and execute the flagship event. In addition, Western Sydney University students looking to attend the event will receive a 60% discount on tickets.

For students and academics who aren't able to attend the event, the University will provide a Semi-Permanent Unlimited Live broadcast which can be accessed through the Western Sydney University website. The broadcast will broadcast the highlights of the creative summit event and run on a 24 hour loop so students won't miss out. The live segments will begin on Thursday and be updated daily for the course of the three day event.

The University will also present the Contribution of Creativity to the Future of Work panel at the event which feature award winning ABC producer Emma Morris, artist and film maker Aaron Rose, and graduate and Senior Technical Program Manager at Tesla, Jay Manley.

With a network of over 800 speakers such as Academy Award winner Oliver Stone, Semi Permanent is a global platform that curates events and content, and plays a key role in establishing new collaborations between leading organisations.

The partnership will see new mentor programs for high performing students, granting them access and support from innovators in creative industries, business and entrepreneurship. Bespoke content from Semi Permanent's vast range of creative leaders will also be embedded into the curriculum.

Chief Student Experience Officer Michael Burgess says Western Sydney University is excited to be the first education partner of Semi Permanent.

"Western Sydney University is focused on providing creative learning options for our students, and this partnership will help ensure that key course content is informed by the latest global innovations," says Mr Burgess.

"In addition to embedding Semi Permanent content in the curriculum, the partnership will also open new doors for our students to gain real world experience and hands on access to some of the best business and creative leaders."
