Entries now open for UWS Sculpture Award

Antipodean Vision

2012 UWS Sculpture Award 'Landcom People's Choice Award' winner Antipodean Vision.

The University of Western Sydney Art Gallery is pleased to announce that applications for the 2014 UWS Sculpture Award are now open.

With two major prizes, each valued up to $30,000, the UWS Sculpture Award has attracted many entries from local, inter-state and national artists.

Established in 2004, the bi-annual UWS Sculpture Award aims to establish closer links between the University and artists, and engage with the community by providing a valuable educational and cultural resource, as well as enhancing the campus environment for teaching and learning.

"The UWS Sculpture Award is a great opportunity for artists to engage with UWS and contribute to the sculpture park that has developed over the past decade on the University's Campbelltown campus,  where the outdoor sculptures are enjoyed by  local residents and visitors to the Macarthur region, "says Monica McMahon, UWS Art Curator.

"Every year, this cultural event grows in prominence and stature and is exhibited in a stunning lakeside park land setting, surrounded by the changing seasonal colours of Autumn."

Sculptures should be suitable for installation in this unique lakeside setting on the Campbelltown campus where all finalists will be exhibited and where the UWS winning entry will be permanently installed. Artists are encouraged to visit the exhibition site prior to submission of entries.

There will be four prizes in the 2014 UWS Sculpture Award:

  • UWS Acquisitive Sculpture Award - valued up to $30,000
  • UrbanGrowth NSW Acquisitive Sculpture Award - valued up to $30,000
  • UrbanGrowth NSW People's Choice Award - $5,000 (non-acquisitive)
  • Janice Reid Emerging Artist Award - $5,000 (non-acquisitive)

Eligibility criteria for each prize is available from the UWS Art Gallery website as are all conditions of entry and entry forms.
