Art, culture and diversity come together in complete harmony
The University of Western Sydney is hosting an art exhibition that provides a unique insight into Australian children's perceptions of a perfect world.
Harmony Day is held each year as a way of celebrating Australia's diversity, and each year school students from across NSW and ACT mark the occasion by creating posters that depict a world that is respectful of all religions and cultures.
In 2011, Moving Forward Together Inc. received more than 4,000 entries to its Harmony Day Poster Competition. From 23 February 2012, the state and regional finalists will be on display at the UWS Bankstown campus.
UWS Curator, Ms Monica McMahon says the University is pleased to once again play host to the annual exhibition.
"The Harmony Day Poster Competition is celebration of many things – of culture and belonging, of art, and of the creative minds of our young people," says Ms McMahon.
"Each year, the walls of the University's Margot Hardy Gallery are enlivened by colourful and dynamic artworks that give us an insight into the world that might one day be possible, with today's young people as its future caretakers."
On February 23, Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller will officially open the UWS exhibition. Armondo Hurley, a well-known performer, producer and advocate for young people, will MC the event.
The exhibition is an initiative of Moving Forward Together Inc., a project of the Alfred Dreyfus Unit of B'nai B'rith.
