Western Sydney University partners with Lockheed Martin Australia
Western Sydney University students can now unlock greater access to world-leading skills as part of a significant partnership with global aviation and technology giant Lockheed Martin Australia (LMA).
The partnership will put students at the forefront of new and emerging industry development in Western Sydney. The collaboration will focus on education and future workforce, alongside joint research and supply chain development, to improve aviation and technology industry capabilities in the region.
The partnership is designed to give students and the community access to the skills of the future, opening up career pathways and exploring new models for ‘earn as you learn’ and opportunities for placements and internships, in an exciting industry that is developing in the region.
Opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework in STEM and a range of other disciplines such as business and logistics will be explored, to build future workforce capacity in Western Sydney as a key region identified for defence, aerospace and related advanced manufacturing technologies. This includes co-design and co-delivery of programs aligned to these industries, along with internships and employment pathways.
It will also build knowledge and capabilities as Western Sydney becomes a global hub for emerging industries through the new Western Sydney International Airport and the Aerotropolis.
Western and Lockheed will work on programs delivered through the University’s Factory of the Future, connecting students and researchers with small and medium (SME) manufacturing businesses in Western Sydney. The region has the highest concentration of SMEs in the nation, and these programs will support them to innovate and participate in complex supply chains, access new markets, and drive leading edge research and development in areas such as advanced air mobility to future-proof local industry, including the potential for working through the proposed Advanced Air Mobility Cooperative Research Centre.
Western Sydney University follows a rigorous framework for industry and research partnerships ensuring alignment with the University’s mission, values and strategic objectives.
The partnership will support student learning opportunities and help grow manufacturing capabilities in Western Sydney.
