Professor Hector Malano has taught undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in water resources allocation and management, farm irrigation systems design, management, operation and maintenance of irrigation schemes and has supervised over 50 post-graduate Master and PhD students.

Hector’s main research interests straddle integrated river basin and water resources management, management and operation   of the rural and urban water cycle systems with a particular interest in interdisciplinary aspects of water management. Prof Malano has lead several major research projects involving a large number of researchers. He was the lead researcher and node coordinator for the CRC for Irrigation Futures and CRC for Catchment Hydrology and subprogram leader of the water cycle subprogram of the System HarmonisationTM and project leader of the research project on climate adaptation in the Krishna River Basin, India, and the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia.

 Hector has authored and co-authored over 150 scientific papers, articles, reports and manuals. A list of publications is available at List of Publications (opens in a new window). He is also the Joint Editor of the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage, Wiley Interscience, and the Chair of the Permanent Committee of Technical Activities of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage.
