The Academy Awards of Excellence

Each year we host The Academy Awards of Excellence in celebration of The Academy and the achievements of our students. These Awards recognise both Winners & Nominees who have been nominated by their peers for their contributions and commitment to supporting others both on and off campus.

Hosted by the Chancellor, Professor Peter Shergold AC, awards (Shergies) are presented in the following categories:

Community Engagement Award
Awarded to a student who has actively contributed to their community and inspires others through their passion and dedication.

Student Leadership Award
Awarded to a student who has clearly demonstrated leadership qualities in everything they do, both on and off campus.

Above and Beyond Award
Awarded to a student who has gone ‘above and beyond’ in helping and assisting their peers; demonstrating an attitude of excellence and teamwork.

Emerging Leader Award
Awarded to a first year student who has actively contributed on campus in a meaningful and impactful way and represents the aims and ideals of The Academy.

Citizen Scholar Award
Awarded to a student who has achieved The Academy Citizen Scholar Award. The Citizen Scholar Award is designed to enable students to graduate as active and engaged citizens as well as lifelong learners.

Academic Engagement Award
Awarded to a student who uses or applies their knowledge and skills in a practical sense beyond University study to benefit others.

Alumni Award
This is a special Award presented to a recent Alumni of The Academy.

Staff Excellence Award
Awarded to an Academic who epitomises the ethos of The Academy and has provided exceptional academic input during the year.
