Information for Researchers and Supervisors

MD Projects may be soured in one of two ways:

  1. Student-Sourced Projects

Current Year 3 students are encouraged to self-source projects for Year 4 in their subject areas of interest by contacting supervisors directly. For this purpose, we will be listing for students, the details of supervisors who have agreed to be contacted directly, with the intention of developing and collaborating in a project together. Throughout April and May, students will be contacting supervisors that match their subject area of interest. With the project supervisor, the student will complete a Project Proposal Template for the agreed project, to be submitted for review by the MD Project team by end of June. If the project is approved, the student and supervisor will be asked to sign the MD Project Supervision Agreement. This project proposal will not be listed for other students to select unless specified.

  2. Supervisor-Offered Projects
As in previous years, MD Projects may be fully designed by academics, clinical researchers, or academic/community or academic/clinician collaborations to complement their community, clinical, or research strategies. As an alternative to student-sourced projects, supervisor-offered projects can be created at any time and require the completion and submission of the WSU MD PROJECT PROPOSAL FORM to the MD Project team by end of July. Approved offers will be listed for students who have not self-sourced, to view by September.

The supervisor is responsible for:

  • Ensuring timely submission of new ethics applications to relevant ethics committees and/or approval boards.
  • Adding students/subprojects to the ethics approval of an existing project before students begin working on their projects.
  • Ensuring that all other required approvals are in place before the project commences to enable the student to start their MD Project in due time.

Only projects with completed proposal information will be considered. Following review, project changes may be required to fit with the scope of the MD Project on the basis of the feedback provided by the team.
