Personalised and Adaptive Learning Benefits Students

Digital Futures is leading the development of courses that responds to students personal learning needs and matches course content to them individually.

Over the last 6 months the DFT has developed 3 courses using the CogBooks adaptive learning platform. The courses are: Digital, Professional and Cultural Readiness (in collaboration with the Library), Literacy & Numeracy for Teaching (LANTITE) and MESH’s Maths for Programming Fundamentals.

Readiness was a pilot project targeted at first year nursing students, and has since been offered to International and Master of Teaching students.  96% of students in the pilot said they now felt confident and ready for University, 97% found the course easy to navigate and 95% of students completed the course. International students were equally satisfied with the course with 93% of students feeling confident and ready to start University.

DFT and School of Education recently released the Literacy & Numeracy for Teaching course targeted at preparing Master of Teaching students literacy and numeracy skills.  To date 71% said they felt confident about completing LANTITE after attempting the CogBook’s course.

In support of students struggling with the maths component of their courses; particularly those who cannot make it to campus for face to face workshops, we have been working with MESH on a Maths support course for Programming Fundamentals. This course is due to be released to students in late August 2018, which will provide extra support to those students who need to pass the compulsory Maths diagnostic test.
