
Living on Mars
The idea of human habitation on Mars has gained public attention due to the explosion in pop-culture, including the movie Martian. Capitalising on your interest in Mars, together we will explore its formation and evolution, its climate, habitability and astrobiology, as well as the exciting discoveries made by recent and current probes of Mars. And through analysing a selection of Mars-themed scientific movies and works of fiction, we will look at how science is portrayed in popular culture.
This Curiosity Pod will give you a chance to:
- explain concepts associated with various scientific discoveries and inventions that have arisen from Martian exploration;
- assess the impact of scientific discoveries and inventions on contemporary society through the research on interplanetary travel and space technology;
- analyse a wide range of science fiction (films and novels) to multi-discipline scientific concepts related to Martian probes and astrobiology; and
- appreciate the importance of science in your life and the role of scientific inquiry in increasing our understanding of the universe.
