Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences

The School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences is located in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Cluster, together with the School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment, the School of Science, the MARCS Institute and the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment. The School operates from three of the eleven Western campuses: Penrith, Parramatta South and Campbeltown.

The School offers research-led undergraduate and postgraduate programs to address the global knowledge and skill shortfall of STEM professionals, including research programs that combine advanced academic knowledge with real-life training to suit a range of career needs and interests in the following disciplines: Computer Science and Information Technologies, Data Sciences, Mathematics and STEM Entrepreneurship.

The School conducts world leading research, which focus is clustered in the themes of Intelligent Decision Making, Computing for Sustainability and Equality, and Foundation, Algorithms and Discovery. Education

Through our partnerships in Greater Western Sydney and beyond, the School of Education prepares educators for their professional roles in schools and wider organisational contexts. We conduct research which promotes purposeful innovation, equity, and excellence across all areas of educational endeavours. The learning that we offer builds the capacities of educators and educational leaders to take positive action and translate research into outcomes that have impact for individuals and communities.

Engineering, Design and Built Environment

The School of Engineering, Design and Built Environment is located in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Cluster, together with the School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences, the School of Science, the MARCS Institute, and the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment. The school operates from three of the twelve   WSU campuses: Penrith campus, Parramatta South campus and Parramatta City campus.

The School offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including research programs that combine advanced academic knowledge with real-life training to suit a range of career needs and interests in the following disciplines: Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering and Industrial Design.

The School conducts world leading research in a number of its disciplinary areas and has several research concentrations including the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and the Centre for Smart Modern Construction.

Health Sciences

The School of Health Sciences is educating tomorrow's graduates in an environment that is contemporary, challenging, and adaptive to a rapidly evolving world. Our teaching programs are intrinsically interdisciplinary and cover a broad range of professional and other disciplines in the clinical and non-clinical health sciences and in sport-related disciplines. These areas are underpinned by a strong focus on research and research-led teaching, and involve partnerships with a range of external organisations. Our programs include undergraduate degrees, Honours degrees, coursework Masters programs, and higher degree research programs (Masters and PhD).

The School of Health Sciences leads research to advance fundamental knowledge, enhance professional practice, and to contribute to the broader development of our region, Australia, and internationally in the areas of health, sport, and exercise sciences.

Humanities and Communication Arts

The School of Humanities and Communication Arts offers programs in arts, communication and creative industries, design (visual communication), interpreting and translation, languages, music, TESOL, and creative music therapy. Innovative subjects focus on contemporary debates, perspectives, methods and technologies. Wherever possible, programs include practical training, often through involvement in community and industry-based projects.

The School of Humanities and Communication Arts manages a broad technical infrastructure including a television studio, music recording studios, specialist IT laboratories, sound and video post-production studios, a professional design studio, a television and radio journalism studio, and portable equipment stores.

The School of Humanities and Communication Arts is located on three campuses: Bankstown, Parramatta, and Penrith.

Law

The School of Law is committed to excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and community engagement. It has a research focus on Public and constitutional law, Human Rights and Social Justice issues and a leading clinical program through the Justice Clinic.

The School offers LLB, JD and combined LLB undergraduate degrees, and an LLM degree, as well as providing law teaching for business degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. LLB programs are taught at Parramatta and Campbelltown and there are approximately 1,600 EFTSL in the Law School.

Medicine

The School of Medicine has a commitment to an academic focus that is contemporary, interdisciplinary, research‐intensive, community engaged and founded upon a set of values that support improving the health of all, but in particular, the most disadvantaged in our communities.

Since 2021 the Joint program in Medicine with Charles Sturt University has provided us with a robust partnership to further contribute to end to‐end medical training in order to enhance rural medical workforce.

We strive to train high quality Medical and higher degree graduates, particularly in areas where local and future needs are significant and growing rapidly. We strive to be a first preference medical school and thereby attract the highest quality applicants for Medicine, especially from the local area. We are proud of our contribution through teaching and service through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The School is focused on ensuring that our graduates are ready to embark on their internships and prepared to engage in lifelong learning throughout their medical careers.

Our partnership with the Local Health Districts highlights a dual aim of attracting current and future medical leaders to the region and in turn improving the provision of health care to the Community of Western Sydney.

Nursing and Midwifery

Nursing and Midwifery are rewarding professions that provide career opportunities in clinical, academic, and business environments and challenge graduates to define and identify their own boundaries and horizons. Our School is a national leader in nursing and midwifery education, research, and scholarship, with one of the largest undergraduate pre-registration nursing degree programs in Australia. We have over 5,000 students, including 1,500 international students across four campuses and despite our size we provide individual attention in our teaching and learning activities.

The school is highly ranked internationally, ranking in the top 50 in QS World University Rankings for Nursing with research strengths in acute and complex care, ageing and aged care, health education and workforce, oral health, mental health, and women’s, children’s and family health.

The School takes pride in educating students in an environment that is contemporary and adapted to a rapidly evolving world.  Our programs include preregistration nursing and midwifery degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level, honours, postgraduate coursework (Masters), and higher degree research programs (PhD).

Psychology

The School of Psychology is at the forefront of excellence in research, teaching, and clinical training. Psychology at WSU is recognised as performing above world standard in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation.  Psychology subjects are ranked in the top 200 Times Higher Education World Subject Rankings and in the top 250 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The School is committed to the provision of clinical services, quality research, student learning and retention with a focus on providing students with clear professional pathways that prepare them as job-ready graduates. It provides two undergraduate (B Psych (Hons) and B Psych Sciences) undergraduate programs and two postgraduate professional practice programs: Master of Clinical Psychology and Master of Professional Psychology and is currently developing other postgraduate programs.

The school leadership team comprises the Dean of the School, Deputy Dean, Associate Deans, the School Manager, and Directors of Academic Program and is located across three campuses located at Bankstown City, Parramatta, and Penrith (Kingswood).

Science

The School of Science is a large and comprehensive school with learning, teaching and research excellence encompassing a wide range of biological, chemical, environmental, food, forensic, medical, nutritional, and physical sciences, including agriculture and astronomy.

The School is educating tomorrow’s graduates in an environment that is contemporary, challenging, and adaptive to a rapidly evolving world. It offers a range of bachelor, masters and doctoral degrees using the excellent teaching, laboratory and fieldwork facilities at the Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Parramatta, and Penrith campuses, as well as online activities. The School’s research-led teaching is supported by state-of-the-art educational technologies. Its researchers make major contributions to the University’s high ERA (Excellence in Research for Australia) rankings, and collaborate with other schools, University Research Institutes, and external partners in Australia and overseas. The school’s bachelor's degrees include a wide range of majors, minors, interdisciplinary offerings and elective subjects, with access through pathways programs, and opportunities for further study in Master of Research, PhD, and coursework masters degrees. Social Sciences

The School of Social Sciences offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including research programs that combine advanced academic knowledge with real-life training to suit a range of career needs and interests in the following disciplines: Geography and Urban Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Criminology, Policing, Humanitarian and Development Studies, Social Work, Heritage and Tourism, Counselling and Art Therapy. The school offers a vast array of professional accredited programs across campuses in Penrith, Liverpool and Parramatta.
