c4SMC Colloquium – August 2024

The August Research Colloquium of the Centre for Smart Modern Construction (c4SMC) was held on 27 August 2024, focusing on Sustainability and Resilience Research in the Built Environment. The colloquium was led by Professor Srinath Perera, Director of c4SMC, who welcomed the audience and provided an introduction to the Centre’s initiatives. A keynote on People-Focused Recovery and Adaptation was delivered by Dr. Sandeeka Mannakkara, Senior Lecturer in Climate Engineering at the University of Auckland.

Malka Nadeeshani then presented insights on the research project, Use of Social Media in Disaster Management: Challenges and Strategies, a collaboration between Professor Srinath Perera, Associate Professor Sepani Senaratne, Dr. Krisanthi Seneviratne, and Malka Nadeeshani. A presentation was given by Bhoọmi Patel, Principal Advisor – Technical, Building & Construction Compliance at NSW Building Commission, on the topic of Defects Library and the Modern Regulator – NSW Building Commission.

The colloquium was concluded with a vote of thanks and closing remarks by Associate Professor Sepani Senaratne, Deputy Director - Research at c4SMC, School of Engineering, Design, and Built Environment, Western Sydney University. Gratitude is extended to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions, especially to Dr Samudaya Nanayakkara and centre HDR researchers for organising the event. Shashini Jayakodi (Project Lead – WSU CIB Student Chapter) was the host, ensuring the event ran seamlessly.
