Launch of Digitalisation of Construction Research Report

The Centre for Smart Modern Construction (C4SMC) together with the Office of Building Commissioner NSW proudly announce the launch of the research report, titled as ‘Digitalisation of Design and Construction of Class 2 Buildings in New South Wales’ on 24 August 2021 from 8.00 am - 9.00 am, online. The Hon. Kevin Anderson, MP, Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation, the Hon. Damien Tudehope MP, Minister for Finance and Small Business, and Steffen Faurby, CEO Tafe will be special guests of this event.

The research report to be launched is the findings of the contract research led by chief investigators Professor Srinath Perera and Associate Professor Xiao-Hua Jin and supported by researchers Kasun Gunasekara and Marini SamaratungaThis research project set out to review the state of digitalisation of the class 2 (multi-unit) building sector of the NSW construction industry with specific reference to the production of design drawings and as-built drawings. It involved a detailed worldwide literature review followed by gathering data through a quantitative survey of class 2 building designers and builders (including developers). The survey also included questions related to the size and structure of these businesses, providing a current market snapshot of NSW’s class 2 building sector. The survey resulted in 542 valid responses from 347 designers and 195 builders, resulting in a sample size that achieved a 90% confidence level. This data was then further verified and expanded through a series of qualitative interviews involving building designers, builders and software service providers representing small, medium and large companies.
