60 seconds with… Jason Siegler

Jason SieglerJason Siegler is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Academic Program for the Sport and Exercise Science Program on the Campbelltown campus. Jason grew up and studied in the States, and came to UWS after a four-year stint in the UK at the University of Hull. Jason lectures and researches in the areas of sport nutrition and human physiology.

How long have you worked at UWS and what’s the best thing about working here?
I’ve been working here for two years. The best thing about working here is the diversity of the people (both staff and students).

What is your favourite place on one of the UWS campuses and why?
Behind the student residences on the Campbelltown campus sits a small observatory. From there, you have a great view of both the campus and surrounding area, not to mention some peace and quiet.

When you’re not at work, what will we find you doing?
Recreationally competing in ocean swims and triathlons, and keeping track of my two small children.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A carpenter.

What was your first job?
A lifeguard.

What has been your greatest success?
Being able to find the right work/life balance.

If you could go to just one country in the world for a vacation, which country would it be and why?
I’d go to Chile to ski.

What is your favourite book, movie and/or album?
Favourite book: The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey.
Favourite movie: In the Name of the Father.
Favourite album: Nick Drake’s Pink Moon.

If you could invite anyone to dinner who would it be and why?
My great-grandmother who was affectionately nicknamed ‘The Old Lady’. I’d like to find out if any one of the countless stories I’ve heard about her are true.
