Our people: Susan Hudson wins HR award

Susan Hudson

Susan Hudson, Director, HR Strategy and Services, has been recognised for her work, receiving the UniJobs Award for Excellence in HR Management at the 2012 ATEM/Campus Review awards. The award recognises the impact, leadership, personal credibility, stakeholder credibility and best practice exercised by Susan when successfully developing and implementing strategic and innovative HR initiatives.

The judges noted: “She has a very high level of personal credibility among those who work with and around her, and is an outstanding exemplar of a practitioner who has the personal and professional attributes to embed ‘best’ HR practice within an organisation.”

Susan says winning the UniJobs Award for Excellence in HR Management is recognition of the success of the Our People 2015 project. “Universities across Australia and New Zealand know about our staffing strategy and admire the work we have done,” explains Susan. “We have given numerous presentations on the strategy at different conferences and workshops and we have hosted many universities who have come to visit us to find out more about Our People 2015. This award was not so much an award for me as an award for the outcomes of the Our People 2015 project, which was a fabulous team effort.”

Susan has been working at the University for 17 years. She says her daily tasks vary widely — from speaking to a Dean on matters affecting their School to discussing issues with unions, supporting a large team focused on providing excellent HR services and thinking about how HR services can be improved.

“I feel truly honoured to receive the award and am grateful that I work for such a rewarding university as UWS, which has offered me many opportunities over the years,” she says. “All I had to do was reach out and take them.”
