$7,500 per year for the duration of the degree


New or continuing students


Any undergraduate degree


Applicants must:

  • be Australian citizens or permanent residents who have been granted a humanitarian visa, preferably within the last five years
  • be female
  • be enrolled full-time in any undergraduate degree

Professor Janice Reid AM

Professor Janice Reid AM was Vice-Chancellor and President of the University from 1998 to 2013. She is a recipient of several awards and honours both in Australia and overseas, and has served on numerous boards and committees in the area of health and welfare policy, education, arts, culture and regional development.

The Joan Reid Scholarship for Refugee Women reflects Professor Reid's commitment to education and supporting the educational aspirations of refugee women and is named in honour of her mother who has throughout her life provided help, hospitality, friendship and a warm welcome to newly arrived immigrants and refugees.

Application and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the receipt of the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant's background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit. Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, their ability to meet the criteria and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.
