George WH Lan & Yi-Chen Lan

This Scholarship has been founded by the son of George WH Lan and graduate of the University, Dr Yi-Chen Lan. The Scholarship is in memory of Mr Lan and recognises his commitment to education.

George WH Lan was the owner and CEO of a multinational electronic manufacturing corporation, with its headquarters based in Taiwan. During the 1990's, Mr Lan's business operations spanned three continents and employed over 3,000 staff worldwide. The education of his children was Mr Lan's first priority, so much so that he sponsored his son, Yi-Chen, to complete university in Australia.

Yi-Chen started his undergraduate program in the Faculty of Commerce in 1994 as an international student and went on to complete his Bachelor Honours in 1998 and a PhD in 2004.

As a popular study destination for many local students from low socio-economic backgrounds, the vision of the University inspired Yi-Chen to provide a scholarship to enrich the student learning journey; to provide support to talented students; and to encourage them in their studies, dreams and aspirations.

Application and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement supporting their application indicating how they believe receiving the scholarship will assist them with their studies and future careers. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant's background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit.

Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, ability to meet the criteria, and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.

Further information and how to apply can be found on our High Potential Scholarship page.
