UWS sets the scene for Home and Away

Home and Away cast on set at Campbelltown

Campbelltown staff may have noticed something very familiar about a recent episode of Home and Away.

Staff and students got to do a bit of star spotting when the cast of Home and Away took up residence at Campbelltown campus for a day during Spring Session, in the lead up to an episode which aired in March this year.

The Moot court in Building 22 was used to set the scene for Sasha’s court trial for the murder of character Stuart Henderson.

Usually occupied by law students honing their skills, the Moot Court was filled with camera crews, cast members and extras from Channel 7. UWS School of Law staff offered expert advice in the lead-up to filming to ensure the court scenes – complete with judge, jury, court officers and spectators – were as realistic as possible.

The Moot Court is a replica of the Campbelltown District Court and was the ideal setting for the legal action, according to Michael Adams, Dean of the School of Law.

“We have used it many times for a range of purposes from law students mooting, to filming for TV,” says Michael, who had the opportunity to meet the cast.

“They were all very professional and focused,” he says. “They enjoyed being on campus and liked the facilities.”

Many staff and students caught a glimpse of the action during filming of the characters’ arrival at the ‘courthouse’, set on the steps between Building 22 and Building 26.

This is not the first time that scenes from Home and Away have been filmed at UWS – part of an earlier episode was filmed on the Hawkesbury campus last year.
