The Student Communications team provides assistance and advice on engaging with the University’s student community. The team ensures students have access to the essential information they need to study at Western – from important enrolment information through to advising of the University’s strategic initiatives, projects and events.
Student Communications develops and executes communication plans for major University-wide strategic initiatives which have a significant impact on students and can also provide support for smaller projects and events, including advising on the best channels to communicate a student message.
Student Communications are happy to help with your request and will provide advice on best practice for student communications. Please see the below fields for our channel requirements:
Emails that are appropriate for distribution via broadcast email lists include emergency/safety/crisis notices, IT outages, information that may affect students’ enrolment and exam and results announcements. This communication channel is managed by the Student Communications team.

The University uses social media, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter to communicate messages to students and prospective students. The Social Media team is responsible for content development and managing the University’s social media channels. You can request a post on social media by filling out the Social Media form.
The Event Calendar can be used to post details about an upcoming event. As your event draws closer, your post will show on the student landing page, or the homepage if it is open to the public. The Event Calendar is managed by the Media Team. You can Create a Calendar Event here.
Webpages are the best place to include detailed information about your initiative, including images and documents. This can be a place that is pointed to from other communications, particularly when using channels that require a short message. To request a new website or update an existing one, complete the Web Channel request form. The Web Services Unit manages the University’s website.
vUWS is the University’s e-learning system. This is where students access learning materials and participate in online activities, individually or online with others. Announcements can be added by completing the vUWS Announcement request form (staff login is required). vUWS is managed by ITDS.
