Here is 60 seconds (and a bit) with Kym:Kym Morris

How long have you worked at UWS?
I have worked at UWS (on several campuses) for 13 years. My role is in Information Technology and includes the corporate applications portfolio, IT planning and project management, data and enterprise architecture.

Which campus are you based on?
I’m currently based at Werrington North which is (largely) peaceful and scenic, but admit to missing the bustle of activity, the occasional lunchtime concert and campus life in general that I’ve experienced when working previously at Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Kingswood and Parramatta campuses.

What is your favourite place on one of the UWS campuses and why?

I have a fondness for Hawkesbury where, as a (very) young girl, I attended some of the old Hawkesbury Agricultural College functions – such as the Ag Ball each year. It is a very different atmosphere today when strolling around Stable Square.

I also remember the occasional visit to Nirimba campus when the Navy was in residence – to watch films shown in the Mess on a Saturday night.

When you’re not at work, what will we find you doing?

Usually something to do with art – painting, drawing or just looking. I’m a member of the Macquarie Towns Art Society and Secretary of the Combined Art Societies of Sydney. The latter run an annual workshop event (3 days in May) and an exhibition, the Art of Sydney, in January each year.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I could never really say – I’ve always wanted to sing – but shower style is as much as I could ever manage.

What was your first job?
I had a school holiday job at Murray Bros in Parramatta at the women’s accessory counter – it was bit like “Are you being served?” – it closed down many years ago and gloves and handkerchiefs went out of fashion.

What has been your greatest success?
I completed a Master’s of Art Practice including an exhibition (thanks to UWS who hosted it) – it was quite a stretch from my usual occupation and studies.

If you could go to just one country in the world for a vacation, which country would it be and why?
Too many great places to choose from – I really enjoy visiting Scotland as I’ve made friends over there during previous visits and always enjoy catching up in person.

What is your favourite book, movie and/or album?
Again spoiled for choice – I’m currently reading A Bigger Message – a series of conversations with David Hockney which I find fascinating. I enjoy his approach to art and life and how he interprets the landscape and uses an iPad for sketching (I am having a go at that!).

If you could invite anyone to dinner who would it be and why?
My father I think – if that were possible. As I grow older I sometimes think of questions I didn’t ask and information we didn’t share when we had the chance.
