Thesis Title:

Development of lightweight aggregate and concrete from coal washery rejects

Research Project: Coal tailings or coal washery rejects include finely size rock and mineral materials extracted with the coal and separated during the coal preparation processes. Disposal in tailings dams is the most common method for coal tailings management. Percolation of water from tailings dams to the ground water can cause serious environmental and health problems. To address environmental issues associated with the coal tailings dams especially in Australia where coal tailings have become a major environmental issue, this research is going to investigate the development of value-added construction products from coal tailings.
