Study Design

Looking for a world-class educational experience in design? Get your design degree at Western Sydney University, which is ranked among the top 60 best young universities in the world.

We believe that the best way to prepare students for diverse careers in design is through developing a strong studio practice built on design principles, infused by current industry issues, while keeping an eye on the future.

As a design student at Western Sydney University, you'll enjoy our purpose-built design facilities, and learn from award-winning teachers and high-calibre technical staff. Through our program, you will develop a range of creative, intellectual and technical skills, and an understanding of the historical and cultural influences that inform the wide-reaching discipline of visual communication. Working with both individual and team-based projects, you will develop your conceptual thinking skills, and use an extensive range of digital technologies. There are many opportunities to engage with community and industry projects. You can also tailor your degree and specialise in photography, illustration, interactive design and motion graphics/data visualisation.

Graduating from our professionally recognised degree will prepare you to work internationally, as many of our graduates are already doing. On completion, you are eligible to become a full member of AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association) and DIA (Design Institute of Australia). Many of our students have won prestigious student design awards, and our graduates regularly feature in industry awards and publications. For more than two decades, the cutting-edge Western Sydney University design program has inspired graduates to become innovative and engaged creative practitioners, including art directors, photographers, web designers, illustrators, educators, creative entrepreneurs, and videographers.

The Design (Visual Communication) program at Western Sydney University is intimate enough to foster a sense of community, but large enough to open your design career onto the world stage.
