Music and Creative Industries at Western
Music graduates who previously would have planned to pursue contracts with one or more large record companies or orchestras now have a future where they will be able to self-publish their work to the world, or they may require a more entrepreneurial approach than that previously required of a musician or music technologist.
This double degree brings together the existing Music program with emerging creative industries and allows students who are interested in pursuing careers in music to also engage with new paradigms of creative and cultural production, developing skills in entrepreneurship and working in collaborative projects with creative industries in Greater Western Sydney.

As a Music and Creative Industries graduate, you can look forward to career opportunities in:
- Audio Engineering
- Media Production
Concert Tour Manager
Concert tour managers organise the administration side of a musical act's large tour. This includes constructing a schedule, liaising with venues, organising finances and ensuring that the musicians have sufficient equipment.
Sound designers acquire different audio elements and compose and manipulate them to create their desired sound. This includes the creation of sound for productions, video games, film and television.
Composers create music to be performed individually or by a large group of musicians, such as a band or orchestra. At Western you will learn the skills to bring your creative ideas to life.
Artistic directors work as the head of an arts organisation to oversee the artistic choices that the organisation makes. This is a role particularly undertaken in a theatre company where the artistic director approves upcoming productions and the advertising and media for these works.
Music teachers can be hired as part of an organisation or teach on a freelance basis. Further study can open the path to educating in both a primary and high school environment, with a specialisation in music.
Advertising Professionals develop and coordinate advertising strategies and campaigns, determine the market for new goods and services, and identify and develop market opportunities for new and existing goods and services.
Professional photographers are responsible for taking photographs of media specific to an organisation or on a freelance basis. Photographers have to edit photographs and manage copies or prints to meet deadlines. The job involves a lot of travel and flexibility.
