Skye Tasker nominated Youth Worker of the Year!

Young & Resilient HDR student Skye Tasker has been nominated in the NSW Youth Action Awards. Skye was nominated in the NSW Youth Worker of the Year category, that celebrates some of the outstanding achievements of youth workers across the sector.

Skye was nominated for her work at The Girl’s Refuge, particularly for her efforts in forming safe and humanising relationships and environments for the young people accessing the service.

“I was elated because it’s not a job you do for recognition. Youth work is such a collective experience and responsibility, and I work in an amazing team. I would’ve preferred for our service to have been nominated rather than just an individual, but it’s a lovely recognition,” says Skye.

The Girl’s Refuge is an organisation that supports young girls and nonbinary people experiencing crisis in accommodation. The refuge also offers short-term accommodations and support for young people to return home or transition to a longer-term independent accommodation.

NSW Youth Action represents and advocates for young people and the services provided to young people across the state. The awards are held annually to recognise organisations and individuals who offer these services or make positive contributions in the field.

The winners will be announced during the 2022 Youth Work Conference and Awards on 17-18 November, at Sydney Harbour. The awards night will be the first to be held in person since COVID. The conference will also include a series of professional development sessions, with panels, workshops, and masterclasses.

Congratulations Skye, the entire Young & Resilient team will be cheering you on.
