The main hospitals for Western student clinical teaching are located in the Sydney area at Campbelltown, Blacktown and Mount Druitt, although students should expect they may attend clinical learning at other Sydney hospitals from Year 1 of the program.
Whilst there is a shuttle bus running between Campbelltown Campus and Campbelltown hospitals, you will need to use either private motor vehicle, public transport or car pooling to access other locations.
The main hospitals outside of the Sydney Metropolitan Area are Bathurst and Lismore, although clinical training at other rural hospitals throughout New South Wales may be required.
Students will undertake clinical placements across Greater Western Sydney and rural NSW. The School will consider special circumstances of students when allocating them to hospitals on rotation. Some students may be required to spend several clinical rotations in rural settings outside the Sydney metropolitan area. However, we reserve the right to allocate students to hospitals that are not their first preference to ensure that students receive the highest possible quality of teaching.
In Year 4 and 5, students can undertake 12 months of study at one of our rural clinical schools at Bathurst and Lismore, where subsidised accommodation is available. In the event of there being a shortfall of students volunteering to undertake such rural placements, the School will allocate students until the placements are filled. Students must take these placement requirements into consideration and be willing to undertake their training in a range of hospital and health care facilities.
