Biography

Dr Utsab Katwal is currently Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Infrastructure Engineering (CIE), Western Sydney University (WSU). Prior to this role, Dr Katwal worked as Research Assistant for Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP) project, and Australian Research Council (ARC) project between 2020 and 2022, at CIE. He also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney between 2019 and 2021. Dr Katwal received his PhD in Infrastructure Engineering from Western Sydney University (WSU) in 2018. He has published scholarly articles in the areas of steel-concrete composite structures, structural fire engineering, and value-added products from coal tailings in Q1 journals. He is currently co-supervising four PhD students at WSU. He has supervised more than 50 Master’s Degree/ Undergraduate students for their final year thesis/project.

Concrete-filled steel tubular columns.

Advanced analysis and design of steel-concrete composite structures.

Experimental and numerical investigation of composite columns, beam-columns, beams, and connections.

Experimental and numerical investigation for fire performance of columns.

Concrete technology including high strength concrete, geopolymer concrete, concrete incorporating waste glass.

Value added products from coal tailings.

Fire protection coatings for structural members.
