Getting to uni

Wherever you live in Sydney, taking the bus into Sydney City is easy. Many buses stop outside of campus on Elizabeth Street. Use this Trip Planner to plan your best route.

The easiest way to get to campus is by train. Sydney City Campus is located directly across from Museum Station (exit on Liverpool St. and Elizabeth St.). It’s also just a quick walk from Town Hall station. Use this Trip Planner to plan your best route.

If you are living near to campus, walking is always an option! There are student accommodation options in areas such as Haymarket and Chippendale which are within 15 to 20 mins from campus.

The campus is located in the Central Business District of Sydney so we’d recommend getting public transport rather than driving. If you really want to drive to campus, there’s a secure carpark on-site with a limited number of spaces or street parking for an hourly rate.

Student Support

Sydney is the 7th safest city in the world according to The Safe Cities Index 2017. The safety and security of our students on campus is very important. Sydney City Campus has 24 hour security, including video surveillance and an onsite security team. Our security team can assist with safety and security around campus, lost property, theft and medical emergencies. If you are on campus and need assistance, please contact the team on the Ground Level.

At Western Sydney University, there are many people dedicated to helping students. A variety of support services are available to make your transition to university as smooth as possible. Student Advisors are available to help you with any concerns or difficulties that you may have, including:

  • Program advice
  • Study support
  • Assignment help

A Student Counsellor is also available to help you work through the unexpected problems that sometimes catch you by surprise. Be it an academic issue or a personal issue, our Student Counsellor is friendly, approachable and always willing to help.

If you need advice or welfare, disability or counselling help, you are encouraged to access free, confidential counselling services as early as possible before your studies are affected. You can make an appointment with a student advisor directly or drop-in sessions are held daily for any quick questions you wish to ask.

If you have a disability, chronic health condition or temporary injury, the Disability Services team can help with things like pre-admission, note takers, readers, sign interpreters, video and podcast transcripts, assistive technology, textbooks and materials in alternative formats, the list goes on.

If you are struggling with accommodation, financial hardship, personal issues, study related issues, matters related to student visa or if you are having trouble understanding university policies and procedures, the Student Welfare Service can help you work through it. For further information please visit the Student Welfare Service webpage.

Western's Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) offer free group study sessions facilitated by experienced students.

The academic calendar differs slightly from the other university campuses. You can start your degree in either, February, June or October. Postgraduate Business programs have four intakes each year, January, April, June or September.

At Sydney City Campus, you can complete your three year bachelor’s degree in as little as two years and enter the workforce sooner. A bachelor’s degree usually consists of 24 subjects. With our flexible academic calendar, you can study 12 subjects in one year over three sessions.

Small classes, personalised learning and direct access to teachers and support staff, help you to succeed at university and successfully complete your degree program. Unlike the traditional lecturer down approach, our pioneering model of co-created learning treats our students as partners in their education. We empower students to share ideas and develop their creativity through a range of degrees.

Our students are partners in learning. The timetable is structured so that, in most cases, you have two hours of lecture time and two hours of tutorials per subject, per week. As a fulltime student on campus, you should expect to spend 12–16 hours each week in lectures or tutorials between 8am and 9pm, Monday to Friday. Practical programs will require out of hours involvement and some programs require off-campus laboratory workshops.

Work integrated learning is a great way to put your studies into practice and improve your employability. Many of our programs offer you the opportunity to combine your studies with work integrated learning and industry engagement. Through projects, placements and guest speakers, you’ll get the real-life experience, practical skills and knowledge that you need for your future career.

Talk to Reception on Level 4 for help with general enquiries, enrolments, fees, travel concessions, ID cards, forms, the list goes on.
