Financial Planning at Western
Students have the option to transfer to 2793 Master of Financial Planning on successful completion of 40 credit points.
Students may be eligible for advanced standing based on their previous degrees and work experience.
The Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning is accredited by the Financial Planning Education Council (FPEC) and the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA).
Offered online, this degree is designed to give you advanced knowledge of financial planning and increase your competencies in financial advice strategy and theory, financial markets and products, risk management, tax law, compliance and ethics.
If you are eligible for our Challenge Assessment, you can gain credit for your existing knowledge and experience within the financial planning industry, allowing you to fast-track your path to the full degrees you now need.
Western Sydney University also offers degrees in Financial Planning at the Graduate Certificate and Masters level.

Industry accreditation
This degree is accredited by the AFA, FPA, FPEC and FASEA and satisfies the tertiary degrees required to register as a Tax (Financial) Advisor with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).
The Challenge Assessment
Due to legislative changes, there are new requirements that mean financial advisers must hold a degree in order to practice within their field. New financial advisers need a degree by 2019, while existing advisers need degrees by 2026. At Western, we recognise that prior working knowledge and experience can be highly valuable and relevant to further study, so we have created the Challenge Assessment.
This program allows eligible students who have more than two years’ experience the opportunity to undertake two Challenge Assessments with Western. These will help us evaluate your knowledge and potentially fast-track your pathway to an accredited degree. Please note the Challenge Assessment is only available to candidates that have relevant working experience and knowledge within the Financial Planning field.
The Challenge Assessment is available for the following subjects: Communication and Ethics in Financial Planning, Principles of Financial Planning, Investment Planning and Superannuation.
The School of Business has been awarded AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation for its excellence in business education.

*The tuition fees quoted above are the fees for the normal full-time study load of the program (80 credit points) per annum. International students will be subject to a variable fee regime; i.e. enrolled students will be required to pay fees during their program based on the approved fee for each calendar year. Fee changes (if any) will occur at 1 January each calendar year. Students who extend their program past the normal finish date of the program will be required to pay additional fees based on the prevailing fee level.
