Dr Chris Derry
Dr Chris Derry
Research Interests: Dr Derry is research advisor to the WSU/Sydney Water project titled the performance of constructed stormwater wetlands as a nutrient compliance offset resource. The Hawkesbury Campus research wetlands consist of four 300m parallel treatment channels for which removal efficiency for nitrates and phosphates is measured in terms of water chemistry, flow rate, wetland construction, climate, vegetation and algal growth. Samples are analysed at the West Ryde Sydney Water laboratories and in-house and results will advise Sydney Water and the EPA in determining fair regional offset-trading ratios, with improved water quality and increased wetland construction as outcomes

Dr Rachael Nolan
Dr Rachael Nolan
Hawkesbury Institute For The Environment
Research Interests: Understanding how ecosystems respond to disturbance, and what this means for ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, habitat values and water resources. Developing models of forest flammability due to dynamics in fuel loads and fuel moisture content. As the climate changes and bushfires become more frequent, it is more important than ever to improve predictions of where and when major fires may occur, and what their impacts will be to our ecosystems, and the ecosystem services they provide, such as fresh drinking water and carbon storage.
