Yellow Cabbage
Yellow Cabbage (1998) by Ah Xian
Ceramic, 28cm diameter
Collector: Simon Chan
Ah Xian is a renowned Chinese Australian artist whose work is in the collection of all the major public institutions in Australia. He produced this striking ceramic work while he had a residency at Sydney College of the Arts (SCA) of University of Sydney in 1998. It was an experimental work which he did on his own at an early stage before he began his body of work on ceramics at Jingdezhen in China. He produced six of these cabbage ceramic works with three in yellow and three in green but each one of them is unique and slightly different in the design. I was Chair of the Aboriginal Benefits Foundation and we were organising one of our fundraising art auctions for the Aboriginal communities in 2016. Ah Xian offered this particular work for our art auction and I was determined to be the highest bidder and it has since been a treasured piece in my art collection.
